What?
“Patient-directed medical order” means a medical order created by the principal in collaboration with their medical professional who is a physician, physician assistant, or an advanced practice registered nurse that is portable across health care settings and accessible in a volunteer online registry. A patient-directed medical order expresses clearly the patient’s preferences and instructions for care which can include all treatments available; modified treatments that are not prolonged or burdensome; or, comfort measures not pursuing or continuing futile interventions.
While Florida already has two patient self-determination laws, many of the seriously ill and frail are not being fully served by these laws. PDMO addresses the reasons these existing laws often fail. This law will create a medical order. It can be posted online, and it is to be followed by all medical providers in every care setting in Florida. One way to think about it is, PDMO provides just-in-time goals of care at the point of care. Technology has made this possible and the time has come for our instructions to follow us so that if we can not speak for ourselves, the form speaks.

The person who answers the phone for lawmakers will take your message or you may simply leave a voicemail. Simply say you hope that they vote YES for Patient-Directed Medical Order.
Why? When we can't speak for ourselves, this form available in an online registry will provide instructions to the medical professionals who are responsible for our care.
Our family, our loved ones and professionals are assured that we are receiving the care that we chose for ourselves.
